Attorney, Halford Hayes (Hal) was born and raised on Church Hill in he City of Richmond. He graduated from the First John Marshall High School in 1950. Hal attended the University of Richmond and graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the School of Business (accounting major). Hal entered the U.S. Army. He was discharged from active duty as a 1st Lieutenant and returned to University of Richmond for a year of graduate school. Hal obtained a Master of Commerce degree from University of Richmond. He then joined the faculty of University of Richmond, serving as the Director of Admissions in the University College Division. From 1971 until he entered Law school, he returned to classroom teaching with the City of Richmond Public School System. While attending T.C. Williams, Hal wrote for the Law review, was a member of the Moot Court Team (which placed 3rd tin the national competition), and graduated first in his class from the T.C. Williams School of Law, University of Richmond.
Hal has been in private practice since May 1977, specializing in real estate law. He has closed approximately 200 transactions each year for the last years, and is approved by major national title insurance companies. Including Lawyers, First American, Fidelity, Tricor, Stewart & Southern. He has closed loans for most regional mortgage companies, including Bank of America, First Union, C&F Mortgage, First
Market Bank, United First, SunTrust, etc.
Hal is married to the former Linda Boyd. He has five grown children and nine grandchildren. Hal sings in the choir at Bon Air Baptist & St. Joseph's Episcopal Churches.
Linda B. Hayes (Hal’s wife) is the firm’s paralegal. She attended and graduated from Hermitage High School in 1962. Linda received a B.A. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1966. She immediately began teaching in the elementary schools of Henrico County and continued teaching until Hal graduated from law school. While Hal was in law school, Linda completed paralegal courses at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College concentrating in real estate matters. She assisted Hal in his practice during its early years, obtained her real estate associate license and became a building contractor with a Class A license. In 1985 she began her construction career as the General Contractor for St. Albans, a condominium project in Henrico County. She also built several single-family homes in Henrico and their home in Chesterfield County. Linda now works full-time as the firms paralegal and coordinates all of the real estate transactions of the firm. She is highly organized and her background as realtor, builder and title examiner gives her a unique combination of knowledge that serves the clients of the firm extremely well.
